Virgil Berry Montgomery,was the son of Hugh Allison and Drucilla Paralee (Posey) Montgomery. He was bn in Hopkins Co. TX. and was a small boy when his mother died. Later, he left home with his bro., Jones Posey, boarding out and working for people on the farm. V.B. was 6'4, and as they "cradled" grain with a scythe (like lge tines of a fork) his height, even though he was young, gave him advantage with this tool and he was hired often because of the amount he could "cradle."
This Montgomery family, moved to Indian Terr. in mid 1890's, where V.B. met and mar. Susan Ellen Barnett, at Roff, I.T, in 1901, where he was working for her sister, *Lou's husband, John Turney.[1900 census] *Luvada
V.B. and Susan farmed. They raised six daughters, (Lottie, Pearl, Hazel, Lucille, Jimmy, & Truba); and two sons,(Raymond C. and Bearl), but Bearl d. at 17 yrs of age. Three other children died young. He mar. Alta Coats after Susan died and a son, Odie Berry was born to this union, ca 1940. The marriage did not last. Later, he worked in a State Home at Vinita where he met and later married Lucille Cox, a nurse, of Enid, OK. After they retired, they moved to Holdenville, where he died of a heart attack.
Besides his wife, Lucille, he was survived by six daughters, and two sons; twemty-one grandchildren, a host of greats, and numerous friends. He was affiliated with the Holdenville Free Will Baptist Church, where Rev. McKinsey was pastor and he conducted the funeral service for Virgil B.
