Born in Córdoba, Argentina, he was lawyer when he began his political career being elected a Congress Representative for Córdoba and became the Provincial Governor in 1895. In 1898, he was elected to the Argentina Congress as a Senator, serving until 1903. In 1904, he became Vice President of Argentina and he succeeded President Manuel Quintana, as President in 1906. He served in office until 1910 and was the only Argentine President to date to have presided in the three powers of democratic government as a Representative, Senator and Executive President. He also was President Justice of the Supreme Court in 1929. He died at the age of 71 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
