He was a powerful champion of papal supremacy of the entire church, he upheld St. John Chyrsostom and condemned Pelagius. He later tried to prevent the takeover of Rome by Alaric I in 410. He was first buried in the Basilica above Catacombe di Ponziano in Rome. In 846 duke Liudolf brought his relics to Gandersheim where they were buried in the crypt of the abbey church His feast day is July 28.
