Funeral for Marcus Smith (Skinny) Garrison, 78, of 604 Northwood Circle will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in First United Methodist Church with interment in Greenwood Cemetery in Garrison.
Mr. Garrison died Tuesday, Jan. 12, in Methodist Hospital in Texas Medical Center in Houston.
Born Nov. 12, 1909, in Garrison, he was the son of George Franklin and Dora May Garrison. He lived his lifetime in the county and was a member of First United Methodist Church which he served as a former member of the official board and past president of the Men's Sunday School Class, a former director of The Texas Funeral Directors, and past president of the Pineywoods Country Club. He was a funeral director and former owner of Oakley-Metcalf Funeral Home. He was a musician and a member of amateur dance bands, a dedicated golfer who wrote "Golf Gossip" for The Daily Sentinel for many years, and a semi-pro baseball player in younger years.
Mr. Garrison and Lois Middleton were married Feb. 7, 1935, and she survives him.
Also surviving are a son, Mark Garrison of Longview; two daughters, Lynn Sibley of San Antonio and Mrs. Bonnie Bissonnet of Austin; a sister, Mrs. Mack Moore of Garrison; five grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Glenn Weaver, Allen Fry, W.Y. Garrison, R.L. Hudson, Woodrow Weatherly, Paul Bollman, Robert Griffin, and Charlie Smith.
Memorials may be gifts to a favorite charity.
Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors will be in charge of arrangements.
