My mom. In 1978, she was diagnosed with MS (multiple sclerosis) after years of enduring many different tests - doctors unable to determine what was happening to her. Not much was known about MS at that time and there were no medications or treatments to help it. There is still so much unknown about MS today.
Then, in March 1992, she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Three months later - the worst day of our lives - June 14, 1992, she passed away from complications of chemotherapy due to her body being weakened by MS. We received a call in the early morning hours that she was failing. Within 5 minutes after her husband (our dad) arrived, she slipped away. I felt she was waiting for him. He and 3 of us (their kids) were by her side as she went home to our Heavenly Father. The days were a blur as we tried to accept that she was gone.
She had just turned 57 less than 3 weeks prior to her death. Too young to die. Not a day goes by that I don't think of her and miss her.
Missing her still is our dad (married 36 years), 4 kids and 6 grandchildren. Her brother Marvin Haussler preceded her in death in 1957 at age 19. My mom was 8 months pregnant with my oldest brother at the time. He was given the middle name of Marvin in memory.
She had a soft spot in her heart for her dachsunds and cats. Many a stray cat adopted her over her lifetime. She enjoyed sewing, reading, camping, yard sales and trips to the Oregon coast. Most of all, she loved her family.
