He was a lieutenant and later captain, in Michael Shively's company, Virginia Militia, War of 1812.

By tradition the three oldest people, John Trimble, his wife Susan Trimble, and their daughter Rachel Foster, were originally buried in an old Bobbitt Cemetery. Their remains were moved to this cemetery and the old cemetery was destroyed.
