US Congressman. Born in Hancockville, South Carolina, he graduated with a law degree from South Carolina College in 1820, was admitted to the bar in 1823 and commenced to practice as an attorney in Startanburg, South Carolina. In 1827, he was elected as a Jacksonian to the Twentieth, Twenty-first and Twenty-second Congresses, serving until 1833. Choosing not to run for re-election, he resumed his law practice. He died at age 54 on his plantation near Hancockville, South Carolina.
