US Senator, Presidential Cabinet Secretary. He served as President of the Northern Central Railway Company of Pennsylvania from 1866 to 1874. He was appointed as Secretary of War under President Ulysses S. Grant, serving from 1876 to 1877. Elected as a Senator from Pennsylvania to the United States Senate, serving from 1877 to 1897. He was the son of Simon Cameron, who also served as Secretary of War in the first months of the Civil War, and as a United States Senator from Pennsylvania.
