BENNINGTON - Alice Staples McGovern, 65, died April 25, 2011, at her home.
She was born in New York City, Sept. 18, 1945, the daughter of Thomas W. Galati and Carolyn (Nelson) Galati Staples.
She received her education in nursing from the University of Connecticut and later pursued a master's degree in health education at Russell Sage College and completed an internship program in stress reduction at the University of Massachusetts Medical Program.
Mrs. McGovern was a certified yoga teacher, reflexologist, polarity therapist and Reiki master.
She was an avid runner/walker, skier, swimmer and enjoyed cooking.
Survivors include two sons, Aaron McGovern of Olympic Valley, Calif., and Matthew McGovern of Cedar, Mich.; her former husband, Joseph McGovern of North Bennington; a brother, Donald Staples of Salisbury, Conn.; two sisters, Faith Selmer of Milford, Conn., and Candice Morriss of North Salem, N.Y.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at Park McCullough House Carriage Barn in North Bennington, followed by a potluck reception.
