Mr. Julian J. Glisan, 97, of Route 1, Canton, died Friday, June 28, 2002, in the Lewis County Nursing Home, Canton. Born May 17, 1905, in Lewis County, a son of John P. and Martha McDermott Glisan. He married Mildred Downs at St. Patrick, Mo., June 23, 1934. She preceded him in death May 22, 1988. Mr. Glisan was employed in Hannibal, for thirty years prior to WWII as a shoe cutter with International Shoe Co., and later as a parts man with Whitney Automotive, after which he moved to Clark County to engage in farming with his sister, Anna Waples until her death and until he retired. Mr. Glisan served in the U.S. Army from January 2, 1943 to August 25, 1945, with Company B, 814 Tank Destroyer Battalion attached to the 7th Armored Division in France, Germany, Belgium, and Holland. He landed at Omaha Beach, and served at the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded four bronze stars for campaigns in France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. He was a member of the Otto Bruner Post #170 of the American Legion for fifty-seven years in Canton, and also a member of the Knights of Columbus of St. Patrick and St. Martha's Catholic Church, Wayland. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mildred; brothers, Elisha, Basel, Paul, and Elwood; sisters, Mary White, Anna Waples, Virgia Shuman, and Edna Beck.
