Adrian L. Gaines was born to John and Edna Gaines on December 16, 1923 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He attended Indianapolis Public School #42 and Crispus Attucks high School.

Adrian gave his life to Christ at an early age and became a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church. He later joined Mt. Zion Apostolic Church, where he was baptized.

Adrian proudly served in the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge. Over the years, he had been employed by Bryant Heating, RCA, and GM Truck & Bus from where he retired.

Adrian was united in marriage to Shirley Baker on December 31, 1978. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Adrian had several hobbies, but most of all loved to work on cars and watching old movies.

Adrian L. Gaines departed this life on Sunday, February 7, 2010 at the age of 86 years, 1 month, and 22 days. He was preceded in death by a son, Dallas T. Gaines; brothers, William Gaines and Cleo T. Gaines; and sister, Maxine Christy; brothers-in-law, Malcom Orton and David Christy.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Shirley Baker Gaines; son, Michael Gaines (Margaret); stepsons, Edward Toombs, and Eric Watson; daughter, Brenda Hayes; stepdaughters, Margie Dean, Kathy Terry, Stacy Rice, Vickie Cazares, Sharon Oliver and Robin Bacon; step-grandchildren, T'Leshia Bates and Deztani Jones; four sisters, Edith Orton, Mildred Pate, Margaret Colbert, and Earline Gaines; brother-in-law, Thaddeus Davis; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family and friends.
