Mrs. Elizabeth Bliss Dies at Advanced Age of Years

Double Toll Taken at Ruddock Home

Sunday morning, at a few minutes before six o'clock, occurred the death of one of Reynoldsville's oldest residents, Mrs. Elizabeth Bliss, at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Campsie, near Third street. She had suffered a stroke of paralysis the Tuesday previous. She had passed her ninety-seventh birth anniversary last May, had been a resident of this section of Jefferson county 64 years ago.

Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Gerberding and Rev. MacPhail officiating. Interment was made in the Reynoldsville cemetery.

Surviving are three daughters and five sons: Mrs. Catherine Z. Campsie, of Reynoldsville; Mrs. Elizabeth Wilson, of Falls Creek; Mrs. Mary McElroy, of Jersey Shore; John Jacob Bliss, of Thayer, Missouri; Sebastian, of the Murray section west of Reynoldsville; William, of Sheffield; Joel, of Pawse (hard to read, maybe Shawmet?), near Brookville. There are thirty-eight grand-children living. Four members of the family are dead.

Mrs. Bliss' maiden name was Elizabeth Zimmerman and she was born in Schuylkill county, Pennsylvania, May 22, 1821. In the same county occurred her marriage to George Bliss in September, 1837, the husband who died here in 1904, also at an advanced age. Mr. and Mrs. Bliss, with their family, came to Jefferson county and settled in Pine Creek township, where they lived nearly thirty years. In 1882 they removed to the Beechwoods section and a few years later came to Reynoldsville, living at first in West Reynoldsville, or Ohiotown, section. Since her husband's death in 1904 Mrs. Bliss had made her home a great part of the time with her daughter, Mrs. Campsie. She was an estimable woman in every respect, one whose long residence in this section leaves a numerous host of friends to mourn her passing.
