| Birth: | Jun. 8, 1821 | | Death: | Jan. 16, 1894 |  Civil War Union Brigadier General, US Congressman. He was admitted to the bar in 1860 and opened a law practice in New York City. At the start of the Civil War, he was commissioned Colonel of the 32nd Regiment, New York Volunteer Infantry, in July 1861. Promoted Brigadier General in September 1862, he resigned from the service in January 1863 and resumed legal practice. In 1865, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-ninth Congress, serving until 1867. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he moved to South Norwalk, Connecticut in 1869 and served as City Attorney.
