Spokesman Review:

Frances Virginia (Ericksen) Cox, a resident of Coeur d'Alene and Hayden Lake, Idaho, for over 70 years, died Tuesday morning, May 19, 2009, in Federal Way, Washington.

Frances graduated from Coeur d'Alene High School in 1944 and attended Kinman Business University in Spokane. She married J. Ray Cox in Coeur d'Alene on April 21, 1946.

She is survived by her husband Ray; her five children, Jeff Cox, Tacoma, Kathy Cox Green, Bellevue, Washington, Steve Cox, Tacoma, Claudia Cox Gehri, Kent, Washington, and Norma Cox Brown, Westport, Connecticut; nineteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; five nieces and eight nephews, including Jerry Ericksen of Post Falls. Frances is also survived by her dear lifelong friend, Gladys Bates of Post Falls.

Frances was a gifted dancer and musician with an angelic solo voice. She was captain of the drill team at Coeur d'Alene High School, and a popular entertainer at the Farragut Naval Base. She sang in Elks Club community musical productions in the 50s and taught preschools at the Merry Melody Musical Kindergarten in her home from 1960 through 1970. She also sang with the North Idaho College Choir, the Elks Club Dance Band and a women's trio with Clarice Wright and Marylou Budvarsen. Frances was a popular soloist for local weddings and funerals all of her life.

She was an active member of the Avondale Golf Club, an avid golfer and an excellent bowler. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) and enjoyed junkets to Salt Lake City for
International Relief Society conferences. She was a gracious political wife during her husband's long career as an Idaho State Senator and member of the Idaho State Board of Education. She loved to entertain in her Avondale home, and could always be coaxed to sing.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2009, at the LDS Church at 477 E. Honeysuckle Avenue, Hayden Lake, Idaho, with burial to follow at Coeur d'Alene Memorial Gardens Cemetery. ENGLISH FUNERAL CHAPEL, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, is in charge of arrangements.
