| Birth: | Sep. 20, 1486 | | Death: | Apr. 2, 1502 | British Royalty. Eldest son of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York, he was named after the legendary King Arthur as a symbol of Henry's high hopes for the rebirth of English greatness and to emphasize the Tudor family's links to Wales. Arthur was never a robust child, but the hopes for the future of the Tudor dynasty were nonetheless pinned on him. At the age of 2, it was arranged for Arthur to marry the Spanish princess Catherine of Aragon. The marriage took place in November of 1501. Arthur died the following spring from a fever caused by the damp climate. Some doctors and historians theorize he may have died of untreated diabetes. His younger brother Henry inherited his titles and his wife.
