As an outfielder and infielder, making his debut with the Buffalo Bisons on August 11, 1881. For nine seasons, he played with the Buffalo Bisons in 1881, Pittsburgh Alleghenys (1882-84), Brooklyn Greys (1885-87), Toledo Maumees in 1890 and Pittsburgh Pirates in 1892. He was the league batting champion with a .357 average and hits champion in 1883. He ended his career with a total of 861 hits, 607 runs scored, 14 homeruns, 299 runs batted in and a .299 batting average. In retirement, he became an umpire in the Majors in 1894 and 1898 to 1900, totaling 429 games. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
