Lenora Joyce Manning Pihl was born May 26, 1934 in Ogden, Utah, the eldest of five children, to Roland Garner and Elizabeth Reid Manning. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family after heart failure on Memorial Day, May 28, 2001, two days after her 67th birthday.

Throughout her youth she and her family moved with her father's civil engineering work to Boise, Idaho, Provo, Utah, Oakland, California, Davis Dam, Nevada and Aurora, Colorado. She attended the University of Colorado in Boulder and Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon, where she studied interior design. In Portland she met her faithful husband, Don Walter Pihl, then a young Air Force pilot. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple, September 23, 1955. Don's assignments in the Air Force led them to Stephenville, Newfoundland, San Antonio, Texas and Yuma, Arizona. Wherever she went, she was apt to become a center of attention and dear friend to all. After the travels of her youth, a particular effort was made to bring stability to her life. She lived 34 years in her beloved home on Harvard Avenue in the Yale Second Ward. She endeared herself to and was ever inspired by her loving neighbors. She was an active and energetic church member all her years, noted for her ability to empathize with youth and for her meticulous, successful event planning. Enthusiasm was displayed in other activities, serving with Don as a Salt Lake Temple ordinance worker and in leadership positions with the Community Council, World Study Group, Book Club and Homestead DUP Camp. She will always be remembered for her service, devotion and darling disposition, as well as being a wonderful hostess to friends and family. Special attention was given to make her home a world of joy and enchantment for her grandchildren.
