PASSING OF A FORMER ALBIAN

Margretta E. Ballantine, daughter of John and Alice Ballantine, was born at Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, May 3, 1846. On July 17, 1872 [sic], she was united in marriage to Rev. H. S. Atchison. After some time spent in Ohio, Rev. and Mrs. Atchison moved to Albia, Iowa, where he served as pastor of the Associate Presbyterian church of Pleasant Divide for many years. Then they removed to Minneola, Kansas, and later to New Brighton, Pa.

Mrs. Atchison had been in declining health for a long time, suffering from heart complications. In the latter part of May she went to Fairfield, Iowa, to visit her daughter. Her condition continued to grow more serious until the end came and she passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bruce Gobble, on Jan. 10, 1919 [sic]. She was favorably known in Albia and the surrounding community where she lived for so many years.

Four children mourn the loss of this faithful mother. They are Rev. Ralph Kerr Atchison, Rimersburg, Pa.; John Robert, Washington, Iowa; Mrs. Mary Gobble, Fairfield, Iowa; and Alice Caroline, New Brighton, Pa. She is also survived by two brothers, Hugh K. Ballantine, Mt. Vernon, Ohio, and John Ballantine, New Concord, Ohio, and one sister, Mrs. Samuel H. Garrett, Cleveland. There are also five grandchildren.

The funeral party went in autos from Fairfield to Washington, where the body was laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery in hope of the resurrection to a blessed immortality. The funeral services were conducted at Washington, Iowa, on the afternoon of July 14th, by Rev. D. J. Mason of that city and Rev. A. M. Malcolm of Albia, Iowa.
