Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, with a Christian wake service conducted at 6:30 p.m.
Mrs. Gowdy died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.
Dorothy Manion was born April 15, 1915, in Davenport, the daughter of Frank and Mabel Benjamin Manion. She graduated from the former Immaculate Conception Academy, Davenport. She married Theodore V. Gowdy Jan. 17, 1950, in Rock Island. He died Oct. 31, 1995.
She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. She enjoyed baking as a hobby.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Sharlene Gowdy, Davenport; daughter-in-law, Laneta Gowdy, Moline; grandsons, Mike Gowdy, Rock Island, and Chris Gowdy, Mount Prospect, Ill. She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Gowdy in 1997.
She will be greatly missed by her two grandsons, Michael and Chris. They could always count on Grandma to take their sides in any dispute. She made sure new comic books were ready for every visit. She knew the importance of G.I. Joes to boys under 10. She was always willing to stay up on Saturday nights watching scary movies to satisfy them.
She gave us many wonderful memories and will leave a great void in our lives. Goodbye, Grandma. Tell Grandpa and Dad we miss them also, and we'll see you again someday.
