Everett James Benson died at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He was 83 and the son of Emanuel J. Benson and Ethel Tourte Benson.

He grew up in Dana and graduated from Dana High School in 1945. He then attended the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he received his commercial pilot and instructor ratings.

In 1949, Everett married Ruby Mylenbusch in Fort Dodge, Iowa. They were the parents of one daughter. They made their home in Dana, Iowa.

Everett loved to fly. He worked as a pilot, instructing others to fly and was aerial sprayer. He eventually moved the business to his farm in Dana where he added a landing strip so he could work from home. Everett was quite the square dancer. He picked it up like he had been dancing for years. He loved flying and especially spending time with all of his family. Everett was a member of Paton Presbyterian Church and Paton Masonic Lodge.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his sister, Beulah O'Neal in 2010.

Everett is survived by his wife of 62 years, his daughter Lana (Gary); grandsons: Cory (Lisa) and Christopher; great grandchildren: Alexis, Zachary, Emma and Anthony; other relatives and many friends.

Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson was in charge of arrangements. His funeral was held at 10:30 am Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson. There was a Masonic Service at 7:30 pm Wednesday.
