MANITOWOC - Meriel J. Kuester passed on Thursday morning, Oct. 15, 2009, at Harmony Care Center in Manitowoc.
Born in Dubuque, Iowa, on Oct. 12, 1920, Meriel is survived by her sister Betty Behrens, Verona, brother-in-law Victor, and sons Jack, Madison, and David, Manitowoc.
Married to Rev. I. Harold Kuester, who preceded her in death, for 56 years, Meriel was a loving Lutheran minister's wife. In Manitowoc, she was an active member at First Lutheran Church, attended Bible Study at Hope Community Church and was trained as a Stephen Minister at Wesley Methodist Church.
Meriel and her husband served parishes in the states of Washington and Idaho as well as in Wisconsin at Racine. In Oshkosh they served at Peace Lutheran Church for over 30 years. Upon retirement, they moved to serve at First Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam.
She enjoyed being involved in her grandchildren's lives and activities: Jack's children, Katie and Emily, David's children, Matthew and Mackenzie.
Meriel was also preceded in death by her sisters Ora and Mary, and her son Peter.
Friends may call at First Lutheran Church, 521 N. 8th St., Manitowoc, from 10:30am to noon, Tues., Oct. 20 followed by funeral service. Burial will be at Peace Lutheran Cemetery in Oshkosh.
A memorial fund has been established in Meriel's name to benefit Samaritan's Purse. Please mail to 4011 Seneca Court, Manitowoc 54220.
Meriel's family thanks the staff at Felician Village, Harmony Care Center and Home Care Health Services & Hospice for their help and support.
