John Gerald Bacon
3/24/1919-3/11/2015

Douglas County lost its reservoir of local history when Gerald Bacon died on Wednesday, March 11, 2015. John Gerald Bacon was born to John G. and Vera James Bacon on March 24, 1919, in Umpqua, Oregon. He lived his entire 96 years on the family’s Century Farm in Umpqua.

For sixty years Gerald was married to Doris Haines, who preceded him in death.

Surviving him are his daughter Judith Bacon; their grandson John G. Bacon; his sister Lorraine Lounsbury; many nieces, nephews, and special friends.

Gerald was proud to be a member of an extended pioneer family that had contributed to the development of this country. His ancestors helped bring cattle to the colonies in 1622. He had ancestors at Valley Forge during the American Revolution. And he had ancestors who helped develop the Oregon Constitution.

He was a farmer, logger, and rancher. Gerald taught all of us by example to live with integrity and responsibility. Private family services will be held.
