"Captain Thomas Jr. SMITH (b 1806 in ME or England and Lost at sea off the coast of Mantanza Cuba 22 Aug 1830 on his way home to Portland,,ME)
Thomas commanded the Brigg Patriot (lost at sea with him).The only survivor of the wreck was said to have brought a small chest with private papers to Thomas' widow, Rebecca BRITAIN. This chest was said to have been in posession of a Horatio Turner of St. Joseph,,MO.
Rebecaa BRITAIN/Britton/Brittain (b.1806 in England, d. 5 Mar 1870) was married to Capt. Thomas Jr. SMITH & they had the following children:
1. Frances Jane (b. May 1820 in New Brunswick,Canada [1880 census in Palmyra,,MO says she was born in ME] d. Aug 1898 Brookfield,,MO.) She married 23 Sep 1843 in St. Louis,,MO Horatio Francis [AKA Frederick] Turner (b Aug 1817 in England (grew up in Philadelphia,,PA), d. Aug 1877 in Palmyra,,MO.)
