Son of Rev. Thomas Mann Carr and Mollie Lee (nee Atkinson) of Elk Mills, Maryland. They served in the RLDS Church in Elk Mills and were on a mission in Cuba when Rene was born. They named him Rene after the French doctor that delivered him.
Thomas served as a Sergeant, Company I, 381st Infantry, 96th Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.
He resided in Cecil County, Maryland prior to the war.
He enlisted in the Army on July 8, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was noted as being Single, without dependents.
He was "Killed In Action" in Okinawa during the war and was awarded a Purple Heart.
Rene Carr Street is named after him in Elkton, Maryland.
