Vernell Bickerstaff Pickens, age 81, of Bear Creek, Alabama, passed away May 19, 2008 in Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield, Alabama.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 to 9:00PM at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville where services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00PM. Burial will follow in Lindsey Cemetery in Hackleburg. Reverend James H Bishop will officiate.

She is survived by: Sons - Jerry Wayne and Charles (Shelia) Pickens; Daughters - Patricia Ann (John) Stidham & Peggy Sue Nieto; Brothers - Red , Pete, Hugh Don, Connie, Chester and Tom Bickerstaff; Sisters - Nancy, Lucy, Susie and Dina. Also 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: Husband - Monk Pickens; Son - Dewey Pickens; Parents - Lit and Nora (Beck) Bickerstaff; Stepmother - Liddy Bickerstaff; Brothers - Willard, Denver and Art; Sisters - Ruth Harlan and an unnamed infant sister.
