Son of William Bartlett and Edith (Bailey) Bartlett.
Married Feb 24, 1870 to Ann Belle (Corder) Bartlett.
Lived on the headwaters of Simpson's Creek where he owned a farm of 190 acres, underlaid with coal. In 1862 he joined the Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church. In 1879 he moved to the Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church where he was licensed to preach in 1884 and ordained two years later. He served Primitive Baptist Churches in the Tygert's Valley River Association and also the Redstone Association in Pennsylvania at no cost. He earned his living with his extensive farming operations.
