Jeanne Marie (Regan) Knudsen, age 81, resident of Brainerd, died Friday, Feb. 3, 2006, at her home.
Jeanne was born on April 23, 1924, in Chicago, Ill., to Joseph P. and Florence M. Regan. Jeanne attended Catholic schools in Chicago. She worked for Carson Pierre Scott in downtown Chicago and later at the Midway Airport in Chicago for TWA Airlines. In high school she played trombone and later became a member of the Chicago Women's Symphony Orchestra. She later joined the Sharon Rogers all-girl band and during W.W. II traveled with the Blind Date Show at numerous Army and Navy bases. They also played many night clubs, including Charleston, S.C., where she met her husband, Yibby, who was in the Navy at the time.
While raising seven children and helping with the family business, Jeanne was a volunteer for St. Francis Guild and a hospital volunteer at St. Joseph's Medical Center. She resumed her painting hobby during their winters in Destin, Fla.
She is survived by her husband Wilbur "Yibby" Knudsen; seven children, Karen (Don) Trame of Kentucky, James (Susan) Knudsen of Minnesota, Karl (Patricia) Knudsen of Illinois, Joanne (Greg) Cook of Colorado, Jayne (Jeff) Owston of Colorado, Kris (Brad) Wolf of Minnesota, and Julie (Brian) Barstad of Minnesota; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph P. Regan and Florence M. Regan, her sister, Eileen Kennedy, and brother Joseph "Jay" P. Regan Jr., all of Chicago.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd with Father Kristoffer McKusky officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Monday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd. Visitation also will be held the hour before services at the church on Tuesday.
Memorials may be given to St. Joseph's Hospice Home Care in Brainerd.
