Richard was the son of William Harrington and Ann Hamon. He married Mary Allen and they had four children: Truman, Chloe, Richard Jr., and William.
Richard was a farmer and a pathmaster in Easton, Washington, NY. He owned 323 acres on Harrington Hill to the west of his brother Israel's property. Much of this land was steep. Wood-shod sleds had to be used to bring down crops from some of the upper fields.
