John Francis Lawrence was born March 16, 1927, in Cresco, to Alex and Elizabeth (Burns) Lawrence. He married Eileen Moran in 1947 in Cresco. During World War II, he served in the Navy.
Mr. Lawrence was superintendent of school for the Delwood School District for 20 years prior to retiring in 1989. Before that, he taught at various schools in Iowa, including Edgewood-Colesburg.
He died May 1, 2000, at his home in Winter Haven. Survivors included his wife, Eileen; a son and daughter-in-law, John M. and Pam Lawrence, Bettendorf; and granddaughters, Sara, Rachel and Kristin Lawrence. He was preceded in death by a brother, a sister and his parents.
