Merricks Sr., Obadiah Richardson "Obie"
MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Obadiah Richardson "Obie" Merricks Sr., 83, of 205 Broad Street, Martinsville, died Aug. 3, 2004 at Beverly Health Care of Martinsville.
Born April 4, 1921, in Callands, Va., he was the son of the late Walter B. Merricks and the late Mabel Wells Merricks.
He retired from Bob White Chevrolet Land, Inc. as a salesman with 21 years of service. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of TPA and a member of VCT.
He was married to Winnie Vaughan Merricks.
In addition to his wife, also of Beverly Health Care, he is survived by one daughter, Deborah "Debi" Wells of Martinsville; two sons, Roger Merricks and Obie Merricks Jr., both of Martinsville; three sisters, Angie Merricks Hatchett of Martinsville, Janice Eggleston of Axton and Peggy Davenport of Richmond; one brother, Trenton D. Merricks of Newark, Ohio; and four grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6 at County Line Christian Church Cemetery in Axton with Minister Lawrence Harris and Minister Butch Dillinger officiating.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Norris Funeral Services.
The family requests that memorials may be given to Alzheimers Association, 2728 Colonial Ave., Suite 2, Roanoke, VA 24015.
Norris Funeral Services in Martinsville is in charge of arrangements.
