Professional Golfer. Born Edgar Mason Rudolph, he began his lengthy association with the sport during his pre-high school years and at the age of sixteen became the youngest golfer to qualify for the US Open in 1950. Later that year, he won the USGA National Junior Amateur Title. He earned two consecutive state titles (1951 and 1952) and continued his athletics while attending the University of Tennessee and Memphis State (now the University of Memphis). Following a stint with the US Army, Rudolph turned professional and was named the PGA Tour's Rookie of the Year in 1959. During the course of his twenty-one year career on the tour, he won five PGA events and participated in 15 Masters and 16 US Opens. In addition, he won 5 Tennessee State Opens, and was a member of the winning 1971 US Ryder Cup Team. Rudolph would go on to serve as golf coach at Vanderbilt University. A golf course in Rudolph's hometown of Clarksville, Tennessee was named in honor of him. (bio by: C.S.)
