US Senator. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1872, and served in the 2nd United States Regular Infantry from 1872 to 1877. He was elected Mayor of Trenton, New Jersey, serving from 1899 to 1902, and as a Senator from New Jersey to the United States Senate, serving from 1907 until his death in office in 1913.
