He passed away in Summer 1987 due to an automobile accident on I-59, and was survived by his parents, Jim "Jimmy" O. and Sue L. [Aldridge] Murphree and his two sisters, Kerri and Kristi.

Jimmy and Sue married in February 1965.

Also surviving Scott were:

• his paternal grandparents, Olen A. Murphree and Alma Mazie [Carey] Murphree

• one great-grandmother, Alma A. [Manuel] Carey, widow of Allen Carey and mother of Alma Murphree

Scott was thoughtful, had a great sense of humor, and was a true friend to all. If you didn't love him, it was probably because you hadn't met him yet.
