Friday noon our community was grieved to hear of the passing away of one of our old and highly respected citizens, Morgan Jackson Ewing, who has been a resident of Sheldon for the past twenty-five years. Mr. Ewing was the last surviving member of a family of fifteen children. He was born on the old Ewing homestead near Greensburg, Indiana, on November 7, 1850, and after a lingering illness of many months, he was relieved of his sufferings and departed from this life, March 28, 1930, at the age of 79 years, 4 months and 21 days.

He was the youngest son of Patrick and Lydia Ewing, who were pioneer settlers of Decatur County. His younger days were spent at home helping his father with the farm, during which time he united with the Christian Church at Hope, Indiana, in 1875.

A few years later he, with his sister, moved to his farm in Jennings County, where they lived until his marriage to Martha Alice James on March 31, 1885.

During the thirteen years that they resided on this farm, four children were born, namely; Charles Edward, who died in infancy, Harry Cortez, Margaret Bessie and Ariadne. In 1898 they moved to Vernon, Indiana, living there until 1905, when they moved to Sheldon, Illinois, where their remaining years were spent. His wife, having died May 1, 1926, Mr. Ewing has made his home among his children, spending the greater part of his time with Harry, at whose home he passed away.

Left to mourn his death, Harry of Sheldon, Illinois; Margaret Ormiston and Ariadne Putt, both of Goodland, Indiana; also three grandchildren, Clark Ewing, Leslie Ormiston and Lowell Putt; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held from the Harry Ewing home at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon with the Rev. E.S. Worley in charge and the Rev. J.S. Spears, pastor of the Christian church, assisting. Interment was made in the Sheldon cemetery.
