William Joseph Cary
Birth: 1865
Death: 1934

U.S. Congressman. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he was educated at St. Johnís Academy, studied telegraphy and was employed as a telegraph operator, (1883-95). He engaged in the brokerage business (1895-1905), was a member of the board of aldermen of Milwaukee, (1900-04) and served as Sheriff of Milwaukee County, (1904-06). In 1907, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixtieth Congress and to the next five succeeding Congresses, serving until 1919. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he served as clerk of Milwaukee County, (1921-33). He died at age 68 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
