US Congressman. Born on a farm in Penn Township, Ohio, he was attending the Agricultural College of Ohio State University, when inducted into the military service for World War I, but was discharged due to a physical disability. He graduated from Ohio State University in 1919, was principal of New Vienna High School (1919-20), superintendent of schools for New Vienna, Ohio, (1920-22) and principal of Hillsboro High School, (1923-28). In 1931, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-second Congress and to the next four succeeding Congresses, serving until 1941. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was special assistant in the Department of Agriculture, Washington, D.C., (1942-46). In 1949, he was elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-first Congress and to the next five succeeding Congresses and served until his death at age 62 in Washington, D.C.
