Viola M. Lord, age 93, resident of Brainerd, died Saturday, March 21, 2009, at the Crosby Care Center.
Viola was born Aug. 31, 1915, in Merrifield to Nels and Minnie (Cotrell) Christiansen. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and had been a Daughters of Isabella and guild member. She was a member and past president of the Eagles auxiliary. Viola retired in 1980 from the Brainerd School District.
She is survived by five children, Bernard (Alice) Pikula of Pleasanton, Calif., Barbara Grater of Brainerd, Leslie (Janette) Pikula of Brainerd, Paulette Johnson Sandefur of Orlando, Fla., and Jeff (Dawn) Pikula of Baxter; 13 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Frank Pikula and Hanley Lord; her grandson, Brett Grater; her sons-in-law, Eldon Grater and Brian Johnson; her sister, Nancy Fenger; and three brothers, Albert, Martin and Lester Christiansen.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd with Father Tony Wroblewski officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday with parish prayers 7 p.m. Tuesday at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd. Visitation will continue the hour before services Wednesday at the church.
