James E. Lumley

Mr. James E. Lumley, 94, of Amsterdam, died Thursday at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, after a long illness.
He was born on Nov. 26, 1906, in Fort Plain, the son of LeRoy and Lola Cramer Lumley.
Mr. Lumley was educated in Fort Plain School. He previously lived in Hudson, Columbia County, for 55 years and had been a resident of Montgomery County since August 1999. He was formerly employed as a printer at Fort Plain Courier-Standard-Enterprise and previously worked at Livingston Press.
Mr. Lumley was of the Methodist faith. He was a charter member of Canajoharie - Fort Plain BPOE Lodge 2621; a 79-year member of Fort Plain Masonic Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 433; a member of Loyal Order of the Moose 853 and Greenport Club, both of Hudson.
He is survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
On March 7, 1931, he married the former Lu Emma Hayes, who died on Oct. 12, 1999. He was also predeceased by a son, James Lumley, who died in 1932.
Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain. A service will be conducted at noon Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. Alan Baumback, pastor of Fort Plain United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will take place at Fort Plain Cemetery in the spring.
