Actor. Born in San Leandro, California, he was a popular comedian and singer, best known for being a radio entertainer. In 1935, he was cast in the hit radio show, “Fibber McGee and Molly Show” as Throckmorton Gildersleeve. Peary eventually got his own radio show “The Great Gildersleeve”, which was the one of the longest-running comedy shows in radio history, (1941-58). He went on to make numerous feature films such as “County Fair” (1941), “The Great Gildersleeve” (1942), “Gildersleeve on Broadway” (1943), “Port of Hell” (1954) and “Outlaw Queen” (1957). His many television credits included “Blondie”, “Fibber McGee and Molly ”, “The Dick Van Dyke Show”, “Perry Mason” and “Petticoat Junction”. He died of a heart attack at age 76.
