Nicked named "Silver Bill", he made his debut as a right handed pitcher for the Pittsburg Alleghenys on August 11, 1890. He pitched for seven seasons with Pittsburg in 1890 and the Cincinnati Redstockings, 1895, 1899 to 1903, with 71 wins, 78 losses, 374 strike outs and a 4.09 earned run average.
