Crash kills Utahn, closes I-15
Gravel truck crosses median, hits wall and bursts into flames

Deseret Morning News
One man was killed in a fiery crash on I-15 Saturday. And law-enforcement officials say they were lucky the tragedy wasn't worse.
About 12:30 p.m., a large dump truck, reportedly used to help in road paving, was traveling north on I-15 near 1200 North.
The truck's left front tire blew out, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle, said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Rudy Taylor.
The truck crossed the median and all lanes of oncoming traffic and crashed through a concrete barricade before coming to rest after hitting the sound wall, Taylor said.
"The vehicle then burst into flames with the driver trapped inside," he said.
Jene Williams Adams, 58, Midvale, was declared dead at the scene.
Taylor did not know if Adams was knocked out by the crash before the fire or if he had any chance to get out.
Although the truck sprayed other vehicles with rocks as it went through the median and into the sound wall on the other side, causing dents and breaking out the windows of some cars, troopers said no other vehicles were hit by the truck and no one else was injured.
The northbound lanes of I-15 were closed for about two hours. The southbound lanes were closed for about five hours as the wreck was cleared and crews from the Utah Department of Transportation replaced the damaged barricades.
