William Jones was born on the 26th of January 1842 in Pennsylvania to Israel and Jane Jones. He came from a large family, with two older sisters, two older brothrs and 3 younger brothers and 2 younger sisters. He was a coal miner at the age of 18 in Frankling Township, Ohio. He was a civil war veteran of the 80th OVI, Co., G. He ws private from 07 December 1861-01 January 1863. William told his parents before he died to claim all of his back pay and buy themselves a home. William was a hero, he volunteered for the war and gave his parents the benefit of his military pay. He died prematurely, at the age of 20 on January 9, 1863 of disease.
