Mr. John Douglas Gaston, 84, of Madisonville, KY, died Thursday, November 13, 2003, at 9:31 P.M., at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born September 7, 1919, in Nebo, KY, he was the son of the late William Thomas Gaston and Emma Ida Gibson Gaston. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Claudia Nance, Anna Mae Foreman, and Bonnell Vandiver.
Mr. Gaston retired after 32 years from the L&N Railroad and the Seaboard Coast Line, where he was a machine operator. He was an Army WWII veteran, serving in the battles and campaigns of: Algeria-French Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily, Po Valley, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, and North Apponines. He was of the Pentecostal faith.
Mr. Gaston is survived by two brothers; Earl Gaston and Roy (R. W.) Gaston, both of Madisonville, several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Sunday, November 16, 2003, at 2:00 P.M., at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home, with Bro. Richard Sisk officiating. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., and on Sunday from 12:00 P.M. until the service time at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home.
