Arthur Lloyd Butt, 84, of Brazil died at 2:37 am today in the Intensive Care Unit at Clay County Hospital, where he had been a patient since Nov. 2.
Born February 13, 1903, he is the son of Arthur Morton Butt and Grace Robertson of Clay County. He graduated from Staunton High School in 1922, and he married his high school sweetheart, Verna Catherine DIERDORF, Sept 19, 1928.
A retired dairy farmer, he was elected to the board of directors of the Virgo County Milk Producers Association in 1951, where he served several terms until poor health forced him to sell his dairy herd.
He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ, the Clay County Farm Bureau and the Indiana Farmers Union.
Known for a quick wit and humorous stories, he often was the focus of attention at family gatherings. Last year he wrote his memories of life on the farm from boyhood through more modern times. These memoirs were made into booklets and given to each of his grandchildren to treasure.
He was preceded in death by a sister in infancy, his parents and 4 brothers, Wayne, Clem, Bill and Hubert.
Survivors include his wife, Verna: 2 sons, Bill A of Vienna, Austria and Virgil W and Mary Jo of Brazil, 2 daughters & sons-in-law, Hubert & Louise Fagg of Brazil, Steve and Mary Youtz of Rockford, IL; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at Miller Memorial Chapel with Bro Walter Hunter and Bro Dennis Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Summit Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Saturday.
