Henry Benjamin "Ben" Lines, age 82 of New Preston, and previously a longtime resident of Greenwich, died on Tuesday April 5th. He was the beloved husband of Roberta June Kolesar-Lines and the late Louise Anderson Lines. Son of the late Henry and Ida Lines, he was born September 15, 1928 in Bessemer, Ala. A proud Navy veteran, he honorably served his country in World War II and Korea as a Gunner's Mate aboard the USS Dayton and the USS Casa Grande. He owned and operated "Starlite TV" for many years and was an avid sports fan. He followed the NY Mets and his beloved University of Alabama Crimson Tide. In his younger years he coached youth baseball in Greenwich and led his "Starlite TV" team to the 1977 Midget League crown. He helped to start the USS Casa Grande Reunion Assoc. in 2001 and served as its president until 2009 when he was named President Emeritus. He loved to work in his rose garden, feeding the birds and taking his dogs, Rosie and Sailor for walks. He is survived by his children, Linda Coyle (Dennis), Patricia Apgar, Cheryl Lines, Bonnie Lienhardt (Ronald), Henry Benjamin Lines III and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by his two brothers, Everett Merritt, Jr (Friedel) and George Merritt. He also leaves his step-daughters, Mary Viscount (Paul), Pat Nishti (Tom Fulton), Jeannette Parker (Gary), Linda Donovan (Vincent) and all their children. Full Military Honors will be held at 5 pm in the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT 06460 on April 13th with a memorial gathering from 5 to 8 p.m. followed by prayer service at 8 pm. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
