Lt. John Worthington received from the English government a large tract of land, a part of which was included in the city of Springfield, Massachusetts. The first street laid out in that city ran through the grant and was called Worthington street. The land descended, by right of the English law of entail, to the eldest son, John, who, leaving no sons, it passed to his daughters.
