U.S. Congressman. Elected to represent New York for the 4th District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1797 to 1804. Elmendorf was also a member of the New York State Assembly (1804-1805), New York State Senate for the Middle District (1813-1817) and a common pleas judge from 1815 to 1821.
