Mae Jean Wettstein, 81, of Taylorville, died Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at 6:58 a.m. at her residence.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sutton Memorail Home, Taylorville. Funeral service will be held Friday, April 1, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Bob Sprugin officiating. Burial will be at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, Taylorville.

Born June 29, 1929, at Spruce Pine, AL, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Maggie (Moreland) Gist. She married John B. McCarty and later married Willis R. Wettstein.

Mrs. Wettstein was a mother and homemaker and had lived in the Taylorville area for many years. She picked cotton, worked at a shoe factory and was a waitress. She loved country music and sang in bands for many years and on several radio shows. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include three sons, Roger (wife Pam) McCarty, and Terry McCarty, all of Taylorville, and Ben (wife Rhonda) of Buffalo; three daughters, Alice (husband Tom) Christenberry of Litchfield, Debra (husband Rick) Samson of Taylorville, and Donna (husband Mark) Weaver of Springfield; eight grandchildren, Jeremy McCarty, Dana Zydlo, Richard Samson Jr., Robert Samson, Deanna Samson, Tiffany Weaver, Nathan Weaver, and Anna McCarty; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (wife Pat) Gist of South Haven; a sister, Christine (Truman) Roe of Pontiac; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Jerry D. McCarty; a granddaughter, Katelyn "Katie" McCarty; three sisters, Ruby Gist, Audrey Camp, and Louise French; four brothers, Ruble Gist, Earl Gist, James Gist, and M.C. Gist.

The family suggests memorials be given to Christian County Senior Citizen's Van Fund, 701 W. Adams Street, Taylorville, IL 62568.
