Spanish-American War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served in the United States Navy during the War with Spain as an Ordinary Seaman on board the USS Nashville. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery during the operation of cutting the cable leading from Cienfuegos, Cuba, on May 11, 1898. His citation reads "Facing the heavy fire of the enemy, Sundquist displayed extraordinary bravery and coolness throughout this action". His Medal was awarded to him on November 1, 1899. He was discharged from the Navy in 1900, but reenlisted in the United States Naval Reserves in 1918 to serve in World War I. He was assigned to the Lafayette Radio Air Station in France and accidentally drowned while swimming off shore. His name is listed on the Tablets of the Missing at Brookwood American Cemetery in Brookwood, England, and he has an "In Memory of" marker at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia in Section MK, Site 192.
