Elsie Lena Smith Warner, 93, of Riverton, WV departed this life Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Pendleton Manor in Franklin, WV. She was born at Bowden, Randolph County, WV and was the daughter of the late Andrew C. Smith and Zettie Ware Smith.

On January 11, 1939, she married Gale J. Warner, who preceded her in death on January 9, 2000. She was also preceded by one son, Dale Smith. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She is survived by four sons - Richard G. (& wife, Ruth) Warner of Franklin, WV; Robert (& wife, Wanda) Warner of Daleville, VA; Carroll (& wife, Eleanor) Warner of Riverton, WV and Jerry W. Warner of Baton Rouge, LA; one daughter - Betty Rader of Beverly, WV; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Smith of Hurricane, WV; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a number of step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren. Her surviving posterity at this point totals 41.

Elsie came to the Riverton area in 1920 as a foster child in the home of Jack and Sallie Raines. Two years later, she was taken into the home of Sarah and Mary Huffman, where she would spend the next 85 years of her life. Elsie was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She worked tirelessly, inside and outside the house, to help rear a large family. She was a great seamstress and could make most anything in the clothing line. She was also a fabulous cook. She and Gale and the family were active in the Methodist Church until their hip surgeries in later years kept them from climbing the many steps going into the church. She loved the Lord and studied her Bible on a regular basis. She was a member of the Valley Chapel United Methodist Church.

She came to live at Pendleton Manor on February 16, 2009.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at the Kimble Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin with Rev. Barbara Rexrode and Richard Warner officiating. Burial will be at North Fork Memorial Cemetery at Riverton, WV.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Monday, August 3 at the Kimble Funeral Home.
